The Style Ref's 2013 NBA Draft Style Review

The Style Ref's 2013 NBA Draft Style Review

The 2013 NBA Draft was quite a ride despite the underwhelming buzz this year. Highlights included a crowd challenge of who can boo the loudest, led by retiring NBA Commissioner David Stern, a confusing game of "whose team am I on anyway?" as trade deals flew around and basketball legend Hakeem Olajuwon's surprise visit in honor of Stern's final NBA Draft.

Compared to the NFL Draft, players made safe style choices and the fashion game was surprisingly flat. Custom jacket linings were a key trend adding an unexpected pop to the traditional suit, but for all the modern flash we've come to expect at these kind of events, Hakeem Olajuwon proved that an old classic is timeless, looking sharp in a near replica of the suit he wore 30 years ago as Stern's first #1 draft pick in 1984.

If you missed the first round on Thursday night, check out the best, worst and worth mentioning in The Style Ref's 2013 NBA Draft Style Review.

Best Dressed of the 2013 NBA Draft

Michael Carter-Williams wins TSR's Best Dressed of the 2013 NBA Draft for this fresh, impeccably-tailored, powder blue suit. While it's a mature look for a young face, the color scheme and fit make it young yet classic, a perfect combination for an NBA rookie.

Honorable Mentions for 2013 NBA Draft Style

Lackluster fashion at the 2013 NBA Draft made it easy to spot the style standouts who made their statements with pops of color, custom jacket linings and mostly muted hues. While underwhelming overall, several players deserve special recognition for their ensembles in TSR's Honorable Mentions.

Worst Dressed of the 2013 NBA Draft

It's a two-way tie for TSR's Worst Dressed: Mason Plumlee and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. It takes a certain man to wear pink well and there are limits to how much of it can be worn at one time. Clearly, neither of these guys got that memo. Truth: pink is a dangerous color for men (and fashion, in general) and should be used with caution. Failure to observe this can result in really bad outfits like these.
